Dr. John Baenziger of the 2020 Michèle Auger Award for Exceptional Service
It is with great pleasure that the Biophysical Society of Canada (BSC) recognizes Dr. John Baenziger as the recipient of the 2020 Michèle Auger Award for Exceptional Service.
With this award, the BSC celebrates and acknowledges Dr. Baenziger’s leadership as President of the BSC from 2014 until 2019, when the society grew from less than 20 to over 300 members. John put together an outstanding executive committee and then under his leadership the committee modernized the activities of the society, including revitalizing the BSC website, implementing both an annual BSC national meeting and a mixer at the annual meeting of the US Biophysical Society, and updating the Constitution/Bylaws to facilitate elections of officers and thus ensure continuity in leadership of the BSC. John led the establishment of travel and merit awards for trainees, along with merit awards for established researchers, such as the Fellows of the BSC, the Young Investigator Award and the Michèle Auger Award for Exceptional Service. New student activities, including the creation of the Trainee Executive, were also promoted, which led to the growth of a young and talented community of biophysical researchers in Canada.
With this award, the BSC thanks John for his enormous dedication and outstanding contributions to the rise and growth of the society.
