Biophysicist Spotlight: Dr. Trushar Patel

spotlight trushar patel

In this installment, we feature Dr. Trushar Patel, Associate Professor, Associate Dean, and Canada Research Chair from the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at the University of Lethbridge.

Long-noncoding RNAs play critical roles in various fundamental biological activities. Dr. Patel’s interdisciplinary research offers critical mechanistic insights into the solution states and interactions between proteins and long-noncoding RNAs. His fundamental research aims to establish the foundational framework critical for translational researchers to develop new therapeutic strategies that target proteins – RNA communication events. His leadership in RNA and protein biophysics research is reflected in his research productivity. He has published 95 peer-reviewed articles in top-tier international journals. The impact of his research is further demonstrated by over 4,900 citations. He has published 36 editorials and delivered 49 oral presentations. His work has been recognized through prestigious honours, including the Biophysical Society of Canada’s 2022 Young Investigator Award and the Canadian Society for Molecular Biosciences’ 2022 New Investigator Award. He was also inducted as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology.
