BSC 2021 in Halifax, NS (Virtual)

6th Annual Meeting – May 25-28, 2021

The 6th Annual Meeting of the Biophysical Society of Canada was held virtually via zoom because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The meeting offered ~160 attendees the opportunity to learn about exciting new developments in a broad spectrum of biophysics research, and the chance to network with peers from across North America. This year’s National Lecture was delivered by Dr. John Rubinstein from the Hospital for Sick Children. We also had the pleasure of attending lectures from Dr. Sabrina Leslie (University of British Columbia) and David Sivak (Simon Fraser University), who respectively are the 2020 and 2021 Young Investigator Awardees. We also had an inaugural session where the BSC trainee awardees for best paper and best thesis presented their research.

With a trainee symposium that began on May 25th, the 2021 BSC meeting ran for 4 days and was filled with oral and poster presentations given by researchers from around the world. Despite the virtual format, feedback indicated that the meeting was very engaging. Attendees really appreciated the virtual poster session, which was hosted in Gather, as well as the 18 poster prizes that were awarded. The meeting was an exciting event that highlighted the incredible depth and breadth of Biophysics research in Canada.

We thank the generosity of our corporate sponsors: Rotunda Scientific Technologies, Systems for Research, Bruker, EKSPLA, the Journal of General Physiology, Lumicks, Rigaku, Olympus, Thorlabs, VWR, and Wolfram. Likewise, we thank our academic sponsors including Dalhousie University’s Faculty of Science and Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, as well as Saint Mary’s University.

We look forward to seeing everyone in person at BSC 2022 in Ottawa!
